Salasai AW2012 'Unchartered Territory'

The lines between masculine and feminine are blurred and the aesthetic is subdued with a bold lining. Designer Kirsha Whitcher shows how capable she is of interpretting fabric into cleverly crafted garments that hold structure, detail and texture. Her AW2012 collection 'Unchartered Territory' graced the runway during New Zealand fashion week to an array of approving guests inside the beautifully dramatic St Mathews church. The range was beautiful and cohesive with an aristocratic country gest. Bold school checks played homage to the English heritage inspiration while a more subtle beige tone check pulled back the range to capture Salasai's feel of nonchalance.

The attention to detail and unifying of colours, textures and silhouettes was key to this range with beautiful cotton anglaise collars, silk velvet textures, leather accents, linen, pleating and draping silks. My favoutie pieces were the check 'everything', navy wool peacoat and the mid-length pleated skirts. Styled by Dan Awha, the models looked bold, daring and graceful all wearing Doc Martens and heavy black eye make up with pearls accentuating the slick part of hair. What will come next???

Salasai hangs out with Pennie on bFM

We got to hang out with Pennie at the bFM studio on Sunday and play some of the teams favorite tunes. Pennie is lovely and despite a few nerves we had a great time and definitely see ourselves with a future in radio!!! We got to chat about Fashion Week, the Salasai brand and managed to sneek a few plugs in there too. We loved our time there and will be back there as soon as we can, if they'll have us? Pennie, we love you!

Wanted...Two Black Cats 'Linen Cushions'...

It seems to me that when Sandi Reefman, (formerly the creative brain behind homeware design company Esther Diamond) merges with one of my favourite artists, Martin Poppelwell the two of them seem as though they wave a magic wand. The creative pair most recently launched this beautiful 100% linen cushion range and I have to say, they are incredible. I love the natural mix of linen with Martins raw style of handwriting. These are limited and stocked in selected boutiques throughout New Zealand. Get your own 'uncomfortable' cushion before they run out!!!

Junya Wantanabe

American utilitywear influenced Junya Wantanabe's Spring 2012 Menswear collection. The former protege of Comme des Garscons, Rei Kawakubo, Junya is known for designing innovative and distinctive clothing. This was no exception...The range was showcased on the garden of a school for the deaf in southern France and featured bright coloured accents in detail and plaid patching. I'm looking forward to spring, gardening will never look better!
